Michael Wood

Trained in sales, Michael decided to open his own company when he found that his boss’ attitude differed from his own and he was forced to let a customer down to satisfy Balance Sheet requirements. The thought that without that customer there would be no Balance Sheet to satisfy lay heavily on his mind and he vowed to never allow that perspective to interfere with customer service again.

Woods Corporate Services Ltd was born in 1990 and has operated under several guises since that time, Anglo Croatians Cars Ltd, Auto 2000 Ltd, ACCL doo, Anglo Slovenian Leasing Ltd, ASL doo and, latterly, Chariots Express. At its height the company was operating 27 branches across Europe, employing over 200 staff and turning over in excess of £22 million per year. For family reasons, the network was sold in 2006 when Michael took over Chariots Express and began building its fleet and its reputation.

He remains passionate about customer service and demands the same from all his staff. He greatest joy is customer association, although he thoroughly enjoys the meticulous business of ensuring the business runs smoothly on a day to day basis.

Gail Rushforth

Gail was head hunted after impressing through different roles in logistics and recruitment.

She shows a natural flair for the intricacy of day to day transport and logistics. She now controls all FORS involvement, all vehicle servicing, all driver records and day to day insurance communication, whilst committing entirely to constant customer calls and daily delivery planning.

In view of her commitment to “The way we want to do it” she has recently been promoted to General Manager and Transport Manager and is in charge during Michael’s absences.

A real diamond, customers love her winning ways and her ability to resolve what ought to be very difficult problems.

Paul Littlewood

Part of the family, Paul holds a primarily administrative role covering all daily customer logs, the whole POD system, including the POD archive. However, he wholly enjoys customer contacts and puts that before any admin work he may have. Nevertheless, his admin systems are all up to date before he leaves for home.

Again, he knows the benefits of solving customer problems and commits fully to the ethic of the company. We can often find him out on deliveries with drivers, especially when that delivery is for a new customer or on a new route for an existing customer. He reports back any potential difficulties so that problems for future deliveries can be resolved before they happen, again, dedicated to customer service.

Geoff Simpson

Every company needs a Geoff, is the best way to describe what Geoff does. He thrives on the hustle and bustle of the transport and logistics business; his tenacious attitude makes him perfect for the job.

Due to expansion of the company Geoff has been entrusted with overseeing all warehouse traffic. Applying his substantial skills to this new role he ensures the smooth running of both the cross- docking elements and the long-term storage. As part of this role Geoff also maintains the yard, ensuring it is tidy and fit for purpose.

Our telephone lines continue to be covered long after the office officially closes (24 hours), and it is invariably Geoff who volunteers for that shift. Seldom does an issue arise that Geoff cannot solve.

Helen Foster

Helen has recently joined the company to take on the role of Accounts Administrator and Payroll. Currently studying with AAT Helen is committed to excellence in all aspects of accountancy and aims to become a fully qualified accountant. As a growing company, Chariots supports this 100% and is looking forward to what her experience and knowledge can bring behind the scenes.

As part of her credit control role, Helen has already established good working relationships with many of our regular customers and continues to work with suppliers, new and old, to ensure the company’s efficiency and efficacy.

Helen also has a passion for the environment which she hopes to bring to Chariots as we move into an age when we are all more aware of our impact on our environment.

Jon Bedford

Jon has recently joined the Company as a Transport Planner. Jon has worked within the Transport Industry for 20 years, and over this time has gained extensive knowledge in planning vehicles, managing drivers, dealing with Customers and general Transport administration. Working closely with Gail and Paul his problem solving attitude makes him a valuable and welcome addition to the Transport team.

Jon came highly recommended and we are looking forward to what he bring to the Company.
